As promised, Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus has the released the Android Oreo update to the OnePlus 5, although in the form of OxygenOS Open Beta 1. At the OnePlus 5T launch event, OnePlus said to release the Open Beta update for the OnePlus 5 by the end of November, and here’s the first version.
Sadly, OnePlus did not release the Open Beta update to the newly launched OnePlus 5T (OxygenOS 4.7 Features) but promised it would arrive in early December. To recall, OnePlus already rolled the stable build of Android Oreo to OnePlus 3 and 3T, making them one among the few smartphones to receive the latest version of Android. However, the Android Oreo update will be the last major update for both the 2016 flagship killers.
That said, this is a beta update, and not the final version of Android Oreo, which will arrive in early 2018 for both the OnePlus 5 and 5T. So, if you want to enjoy Android Oreo sweetness on your OnePlus 5, you need to install it manually. After you manually installing the software, you will receive Open Beta OTA updates going forward, and eventually the final update too.
Here’s the official changelog of OnePlus 5 OxygenOS Android 8.0 Oreo Open Beta 1:

As per the official changelog, OnePlus has added the all the stock Android Oreo features such as Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, autofill passwords, Smart text selection, revamped quick settings panel, and it also includes October 2017 security patches and not November 2017 patches.
The stock OnePlus launcher has been updated too and the one included in the Open Beta 1 supports notification dots as well. As said earlier, you won’t receive any OTA update if you’re on the stable build of Android Nougat, and you need to manually flash the ROM on your OnePlus 5. Also, do make a note that installing this update will wipe the entire data on your smartphone.
